Image reads: Download Pilot Festival, your questions asked & answers

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, I’m sure you’ve heard that Festival Republic is organising a camping festival pilot as part of the Event Research Programme. This pilot will be a smaller-scale Download Festival following their postponement to 2022 in March this year, held over three-days and used to monitor the risk of Covid-19 transmission at similar events.

Though this might seem pretty straightforward, there are a lot of details that go into planning such a party! On that note, let’s run through some of (what I’m sure must be) your most burning questions, shall we?

When and where is it?

The pilot takes place over the course of three-days, from the 18th to the 20th of June, and will be hosted by the hallowed grounds of Donington Park, Castle Donington.

How many people are going?

The capacity for the event is limited to 10,000 – so make sure you’re on the ball with getting tickets this afternoon!

Is it socially distanced?

No, the event allows for moshing in all it’s beauty without the requirement of masks. Instead, you’ll need to take a Lateral flow test prior to the event (or get a test at a NHS testing site) and show proof of your negative result upon arrival. Please note, you cannot get tested on site.

How can I get tickets? How much are they?

Ticket-holders for Download 2022 were able to reserve tickets from Tuesday the 1st of June at 12pm, but general on sale will be today (3rd of June) at 12pm! You can place your order on the Download website, using this link. Tickets will be £120.00 plus a booking fee, and this total includes both your camping and parking.

Why do we need it?

Outlined by Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn: “Following the huge success of our Sefton Park event, we are delighted to contribute to Phase II of the Government’s Events Research Programme with the creation of the first three-day camping festival which will be the Download Pilot at Donington Park.”

“This massive next step will help us understand and study the safe return of large-scale festivals with no social distancing or face masks over a full weekend… the return

of the full festival experience we have all been waiting for and a much needed return to work for musicians, backstage crew, caterers and many more that form part of the UK’s exemplary live music industry.”

Download Festival will make a full return in 2022 with headline sets from KISS, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro.
